i'm actually pretty into how they used proportional spacing with those mono-style serifs to stop letters from looking so stretched out, especially since the 828 glyph count sounds massive. it's definitely better than dealing with the usual gaps in standard monospace when you're trying to build a clean editorial layout, but i wonder if those pill-shaped badge frames might get too distracting in a dense data dashboard?

the pill shapes won't be the issue. you'll run into massive layout shifts once you start adding more columns to a dense table anyway. those badges will just look like clutter next to a high-density grid. i'd expect people to stick to simple border-bottom or just plain text for any real dashboard work. imo it's too much visual weight for something that needs to be super compact. the proportional spacing is cool but won't save you when your letter-spacing gets messed up by a bad font-weight setting. just use standard mono if you want predictability.

Plain text is a nightmare for scannability when you have hundreds of rows. You need some level of containment, even if it's just a subtle background tint, otherwise the eye just drifts right off the line.

tbh i agree, plain text is useless for anything more than two columns. without some kind of visual anchor you're basically just reading a wall of code.
