Standard Ebooks

Underrated is the word. Standard Ebooks is a volunteer project that takes public-domain classics, re-typesets them to a published style manual, proofreads them against scans of the originals, and gives them away: more than 1,540 books so far, free, no account, no DRM. Every file is dedicated to the public domain under CC0, the toolset is GPLv3, and every book is its own repository on GitHub, so a typo fix is a pull request. The website that hands them out is hand-written XHTML with no JavaScript, no analytics and no cookie banner, and it beats the paid editions on typography. Eleven years old. Nobody told you. Now somebody has.
