saw this thing for stringtune today and the whole katana/sensei theme is a bit much. they're saying it uses mostly css and attributes to keep things lightweight but i'm skeptical if it actually beats the standard stuff when things get heavy. anyone tried running this through a stress test yet?

css alone wont save you once you have hundreds of elements moving at once. the real bottleneck is always gonna be paint cycles on the main thread regardless of what attributes they use. its just more overhead for the browser to track all those extra custom properties.

still sounds faster than loading a massive js dependency just to move a div. i'm mostly worried about the custom properties part making the devtools a nightmare.

the devtools nightmare is real because debugging those nested custom properties takes forever. im pretty sure any amount of css tricks will still tank the fps once you start adding filters or shadows to everything. i tried something similar on a dashboard project last month and it turned into a laggy mess as soon as we hit fifty active nodes.
