most sites just get better slowly rot after we ship them because nobody is actually maintaining the content. pierre burgy is looking into using autonomous agents to keep things constantly optimized so the site never reaches a static state. i think this might finally kill the concept of a "version 2.0" but does anyone else worry about losing creative control if we let bots run the design?

the real issue is that agents will probably just optimize for conversion metrics until every site looks like the same generic template. we'll lose all the expressive typography and weird layout experiments that actually make a brand memorable.

the idea of a site being "constantly optimized" sounds like a nightmare for brand identity. if the agent is just A/B testing based on conversion metrics, you end up with a generic blob that satisfies an algorithm but has zero soul. we've already seen this happen with landing pages turning into unreadable junk. how do we even define a "win" for the design if the aesthetic is constantly shifting?
