just stumbled on jacky gilbertson's piece abt how design is way more than just fiddling with colors or pixels. it focuses on identifying the actual problem and the target audience b4 u even touch a canvas. it's basically about logic over aesthetics which makes me wonder if we spend too much way too much time worrying about trends instead of the core user needs

the problem is that clients usually only pay for the pretty pixels they can actually see. u can spend weeks on user flows and edge cases, but if the final mockup doesnt look "modern," they think u failed. it's a trap because focusing solely on logic makes it much harder to justify ur hourly rate to non-designers.
