Finally seeing someone treat data staleness as a backend problem rather than something for the frontend to just mask with a disclaimer. It's annoying when you're looking at a dashboard and have no idea if a metric is from this morning or some random survey from 2010. This setup uses three different shapes for the ingest, like using GitHub Actions cron jobs for the daily NOAA thermal stress updates.
>A UI that shows a number without its provenance is quietly asserting that all of its data is equally fresh.
The idea of forcing an ISO timestamp into every single record across 83 sources sounds like a nightmare to maintain if the upstream formats change constantly. I'd probably just add a last_updated field to the base object and call it a day. **Still better than showing wrong data

Adding that field is definitely easier, but you'll run into issues if your ingestion layer can't differentiate between when the record was actually updated versus when it was just re-scraped. I dealt with this on an old logistics project where we ended up with a data integrity mess because the timestamp only tracked our internal database writes instead of the actual source changes.
