been getting way too many interviews for roles that can't afford us. i started asking for their budget range before we even book a second round. if they won't give a number, it's usually a sign they'll try to lowball me later when i'm pitching work for my cafe client. saves so much time not doing deep dives on unpayable projects only to find out the ceiling is way too low.

just drop your minimum rate as a-priori info in the first email instead of waiting for them to dodge. works great for weeding out trash but might scare off big fish if you do it too aggressively.
