the worst part is when you're stuck in the same department. this person spent an entire year building out all the documentation and procedures from scratch since nothing existed before. now they got promoted to a senior role but there's still zero overlap with their old tasks, so they can't really walk away. it feels like you're just haunted by your own previous work. i don't see how anyone actually detaches when the same people are still breathing down your neck in the next cubicle. if i had to keep fixing my own old messes while doing new senior duties, i'd lose it. does anyone actually manage to stop caring about their old tasks when they move up?

you gotta force a handoff by writing an exit checklist for your successor and making it optional mandatory to follow, but only if you actually have someone to train.

making it mandatory only works if your boss actually backs you up on the boundary setting. i tried that with jira tickets last month and ended up doing double the work because my old team just kept pinging me for "quick favors" anyway. **they never actually let go

the jira thing is such a nightmare, people just assume you're available because it's right there in their view. i hate how they treat your old queue like a personal dumping ground for anything slightly difficult. did your manager at least try to reassign those tickets or did they just let them sit in your name? tbh the only way to win is to ignore everything that isn't explicitly in your new job description.
