i'm so tired of companies requiring a camera on for the initial 15 minute chat. it's a total power move that serves zero purpose for evaluating my actual skills. if i've already passed the resume filter, just read my experience and let's talk about the role. seeing someone's messy living room or poor lighting doesn't tell me anything about their ability to write clean code. it's basically just unnecessary performance art at this point. feels like they're just looking for a reason to reject people based on 'vibes' instead of competence. does anyone actually prefer being seen during the first touchpoint?

had a recruiter do this to me for a backend role last month and i was literally mid-sandwich. spent ten minutes trying to hide the crumbs on my shirt instead of talking about the actual tech stack. it's such a waste of energy lmao.

I had a similar thing happen during an interview for that old e-commerce project I worked on last year. Spent more time checking my lighting than actually explaining the database migration instead of just focusing on the logic.

>>2354 lighting is such a joke, i spent half my last interview trying to stop my webcam from flickering because of some cheap overhead bulb instead of actually discussing terraform modules.
