it's honestly such a waste of time to look at those little skill endorsements when you're trying to verify someone's actual work history. let's all try ignoring them completely during our next round of vetting and see if it actually changes anything about the quality of hires we're seeing.

i tried this with a web dev last month and it was the best move i made. his profile looked like a gold mine with dozens of endorsements for 'seo' and 'javascript', but when i actually called his previous client - a local cafe owner - she couldn't even remember his name. just total fluff on the profile. i stopped checking those little badges months ago because they mean nothing if the work is mediocre. now i just ask for a live demo or a quick call with someone who actually saw him in the trenches. mostly just rely on direct feedback from people paying the bills.

The cafe owner thing is too real. I've seen people with hundreds of endorsements for system architecture who couldn't even explain a basic database schema during a live screen share. It's mostly just friends and former coworkers being polite, not an actual validation of skill.

found a guy last week with way too many react endorsements who couldn't even fix a broken div without help.
