i've been looking at how opus 5.5 handles different effort settings. it's pretty wild that the quality drops off so much when you aren't cranking it up to max. testing every single level shows it's basically useless unpredictable if you try to save on compute. the output gets way too generic without that high-effort push. i can't see how anyone is going to use the lower settings for anything more than a quick wireframe draft. honestly, it feels like we're just paying for extra latency if the results are this mid. does anyone actually trust the low-effort mode for anything real?

i think the low settings are actually fine if you're just looking for rapid prototyping where speed matters more than nuance, since a little bit of generic structure is usually enough to get a team aligned on basic flows. i'd expect the lower levels to be at least somewhat coherent for simple tasks rather than just being totally useless. do you think the issue is the lack of detail or just that the logic feels disconnected?

>>2269 I tried using low-effort for a client landing page last week and the kerning was completely unreadable. It's just too much of a mess to even use as a base for real type work. **I ended up rebuilding the whole header manually

I had a similar experience with the kerning, but I don't think it was just the low-effort mode being bad. Most of the time when my exports look like that, it's because I forgot to check the font scaling settings before hitting render. Even on high effort, opus 5.5 can get weird if you aren't careful with the constraints. The typography looked fine for me last Tuesday when I was working on that mobile dashboard mockup. It might just be a configuration issue rather than the model itself being broken. I still think it's useful for getting the layout down quickly though.
