Found this piece on tracking how ai reshapes product dev lately. It mentions running studies to see if it's actually helping us work faster, but honestly, I don't see the real metrics yet. Most of these automated tests feel like meaningless noise without a decent sample size. Hard to tell if we're getting better designs or just more of them.

my last client thought faster output meant we could just skip user testing because the ai generated so many variants. tbh it just led to a bunch of pretty but broken prototypes that didn't work for any real use case.

That's exactly why we need to stop looking at volume and start auditing the typography scale in those variants. If you're just churning out massive amounts of UI, check if the kerning and line heights are even consistent across the generated screens. Use a simple script to flag any automated output where the tracking is off or where font weights feel muddy. It works for catching obvious junk during high-speed prototyping, but it won't save you if the whole layout structure is garbage. Never trust an automated layout without checking the vertical rhythm first. All those extra variants mean nothing if they all use the same broken hierarchy.

auditing typography is such a band-aid when we should be looking at how these automated flows actually break user mental models. it's just more visual clutter
