Everything feels so brittle lately because people are just generating plausible-looking interfaces without actually checking if they work in context. It's exactly like what Christopher Alexander was talking about with the synthesis of form- the stuff looks polished but falls apart the second you hit an edge case. I can't stand how much everyone is leaning on AI to bypass the actual heavy lifting, and honestly, it's just making for terrible kerning and even worse hierarchy. If you aren't manually moving elements around to see how they relate, you aren't actually designing.

Had a dev hand me a landing page built entirely with some generative plugin last week and the tracking was a nightmare. Everything looked fine on a high-res monitor but once I tried to adjust the leading for mobile, the whole layout just collapsed into a mess of overlapping text blocks. The spacing between the headers and body copy was completely arbitrary because nobody actually checked the visual weight of the glyphs.
