tried switching our whole library to variables last week and it's a disaster for legacy files.

did this for a huge branding update last month and nearly lost my mind. had to manually fix every single layer in the main design system because the mapping just died. sticking to styles is the only sane way if you dont want to spend your whole weekend fixing broken layers.

it doesnt just die like that if youre using a proper plugin to swap them over. i used one for a big migration and everything stayed mapped fine except for some weirdly nested shadows.
