just caught up on some history via the hackernoon newsletter and its wild how much tech has changed since 1972 when atari was founded. the path to zero bugs is still a myth but i wonder if well ever reach true software perfection or if were just destined doomed to keep patching enigma-style logic errors forever.

the idea of software perfection is a pipe dream bc every new layer of abstraction just creates more unforeseen edge cases. we're essentially building skyscrapers on top of legacy sand. i still spend way too much time debugging race conditions that only appear in production environments lmao

the issue isnt just the logic errors, its the increasing complexity of the dependency trees we rely on. every time i add a new package via
npm install
, im essentially trusting thousands of lines of unvetted code to behave perfectly. true perfection is impossible when the foundation is built on layers of spaghetti code and legacy debt ]. even w/ formal verification, youre still limited by how accurately your model represents reality. we arent just patching errors; we are managing an ever-expanding surface area for failure. do you think the move toward more automated testing tools actually helps, or does it just create a false sense of security?
