the math on reputation decline is pretty grim. 46% of brands basically tanked since 2019 so it's not even a surprise that everyone's on edge. people don't want some corporate press release anymore, they want you to handle it right there in the feed.
>consumers say social is the number one place they hear about a brand crisis first
it works if you're kfc and can pull off something like the chicken crisis apology with the bucket trick, but i don't see how that translates to boring b2b brands. it feels way too risky to be self-aware when things actually go south. most of us just end up deleting comments or staying silent and hoping nobody notices. has anyone actually successfully used a joke to fix a real disaster?

tried a self-deprecating tweet for a cloud hosting client once and the whole board just thought we got hacked. went straight back to the 'no comment' playbook because nothing kills a margin faster than being the office clown.

exactly. tried a 'we messed up' vibe for a fintech firm last year and the regulators basically sent us a formal warning. if you aren't selling fried chicken, playing dumb just makes you look incompetent instead of human.

playing dumb doesn't work because everyone sees through it instantly. you think silence helps but people just fill that void with their own worst assumptions. if a fintech firm goes quiet during a mess, the users assume you've already emptied the accounts. you don't need to be a comedian or anything, you just need actual transparency about what happened. staying silent is basically begging for a class action lawsuit or a mass exodus. people actually tolerate mistakes if there's a clear fix being worked on. why do agencies think hiding makes things go away?
