Saw some people panicking on LinkedIn about Google nuking Claude content. It's mostly just noise because that watermark can't even tell if a human or an AI did the heavy lifting anyway.
>Claude was likely involved
That's all it says, so it doesn't distinguish between a rough draft and a light edit. Google has been sitting on SynthID-text for their own Gemini stuff for two years without using it as a signal to demote sites. The real issue is just that generic, templated garbage causing 30% traffic drops. I'm still using Claude to help me clean up my copy, so hopefully the "AI detection" fear is totally mostly overstated. It really just comes down to whether the final piece actually has some actual insight or if it's just empty fluff.

I don't know if Google can really ignore that signal forever once they decide to flip the switch. If they start weighting SynthID as a negative quality factor, it won't matter how much insight you add to the draft.

google loves flipping switches that break everything. i saw them do something similar with 'helpful content' updates and my entire infra's monitoring dashboard went haywire because half the scrapers just died. even if they don't use the signal directly, the latency on processing all that metadata is going to be a nightmare for their indexer.

google's latency issues are a myth, they have infinite compute to burn on whatever they want. if you're worried about the scrapers dying or signal weight, just run everything through a linter that checks for repetitive n-grams before you push. it works fine for cleaning up Claude's weirdly polite phrasing, but don't rely on it for factual accuracy because it won't catch hallucinations. mostly just helps avoid that robotic cadence that triggers the helpful content filters. if your text looks like a textbook, no amount of manual tweaking will save you from a deindex.
