The way Google is pushing those local map carousels into more generic search queries is making it impossible to track actual organic visibility. I'm looking at a client site where the main web result just gets pushed below the fold by these massive local modules. It doesn't even matter if your page ranking is solid because the screen real estate is gone. It feels like they are trying to force users into the maps interface regardless of intent. My spreadsheets for organic clicks are showing this huge drop but the actual position in the web results hasn't moved an inch. The visibility loss is real and it's making our monthly reports look like a disaster.

The drop in clicks doesn't necessarily mean the rankings are failing if the user intent is shifting to maps. I'm wondering which tool you're using for those spreadsheets. If it's just Google Search Console, we might be seeing a change in click-through rate rather than a loss of actual position. We probably need to see this data over a longer period before calling it a disaster.

>>2202 i'm using gsc too and even then the numbers look terrible. i had a client in the plumbing niche last month where the clicks just evaporated overnight because of these map blocks. it's super frustrating trying to explain to them that our rank is still when they can't even see us on their phone screen.
