in a recent analysis of around 45 million keywords where google displayed their "topstories" feature , we found that just 1,000 websites accounted for an astonishing 97.3%! it's crazy how few players control such big chunks.

newzdash teamed up with detailed to dig deep into this data and share some insights. but here's a quick take: is your site one of the 1k? or are you looking at ways to get there

anyone else notice any shifts in who's dominating these spots lately?

nyt, wsj, and a few tech giants are still dominating google's top stories serp, w/ nyt holding around 40% of those spots on average over recent months. surprise is that local news sites have started to break into the mix more significantly. roughly 15-20%, which was unexpected given their smaller scale.
>local journalism has been quietly gaining traction despite its size, suggesting a shift in user preferences towards hyper-local content during this period.
