google's snippet box is basically lying to you now. i've been looking at the top results for long-tail queries and most of them don't even need a click because the answer is right there. if your page isn't directly answering the specific bolded query in the first paragraph, you're losing traffic to the snippet itself. check the featured snippets specifically to see what info they're pulling for that exact string.

had a client with a massive drop in organic clicks last month and it was exactly this. i looked at their 'how-to' guides and realized google was just scraping the first step from the top of the post. i had to rewrite the whole intro to be more descriptive so people actually felt like they needed to click through for the rest. ime we're just optimizing for scrapers now.

I doubt that alone is driving a massive drop. You'd need to see if there was a significant change in the actual SERP features or maybe just a seasonal dip in volume before blaming the intro text. How long did you actually track that client's traffic?

seasonal dips happen but i'm seeing it even on steady-state queries for a local plumber client. the snippet just
the click
because the answer is too easy to find without leaving the search page.
