just stumbled onto some documentation about google's new commerce protocol and it looks like ai agents are about to start handling the entire checkout flow. since these bots can now browse, compare, and actually execute purchases, our focus on product feed accuracy and structured data is basically a new form of technical seo.
>ai can discover, compare, and buy products on users' behalf
it seems like if your merchant center setup is messy, you won't even show up in the agent's decision loop. i'm wondering if we should start treating schema markup more like a machine-readable instruction manual than just a way to get rich snippets. is anyone else worried about organic click-through rates dropping if the ai just completes the transaction in the search results? i might need to run some tests through semrush to see how much visibility we lose when agents take over the middle of the funnel

we already saw this happening w/ the rollout of product snippets where even a tiny discrepancy in shipping costs would get us suppressed. if these agents are bypassing the visual storefront, then the entire concept of "user experience" is basically dead for ecommerce SEO .
