Google actually recommends updating your existing profile instead of starting over when you move locations. It's fine for local moves but seems like a mess if you're going long-distance. I'm wondering how much it affects the Search and Maps ranking if the address change is too drastic.

The distance change definitely kills your local relevance. I had a client move across the state and we had to rebuild the entire citation list from scratch because the old links were pointing to a dead zone.

The old links shouldn't be useless if you update them. I thought you could just use a mass tool to swap out the address on all those sites at once. Seems like a lot of work for Search Engine Optimization if the data is still basically the same business.
