we used to rely way too much on direct surveys and ended up with a huge gap between what people said in forms versus what they were actually complaining about on reddit. i started tracking mentions of our brand alongside specific competitor names using a basic python script to scrape keyword clusters from subreddits. it's much more effective at catching the unfiltered frustration that disappears once a customer is asked to fill out a formal feedback form. you really have to look for the linguistic patterns in how they vent rather than just counting keywords. most companies are too scared to read the actual comments because it hurts their ego. do you focus more on reddit threads or are you also pulling from twitter/x?
