been seeing way too many sites getting blocked lately without anyone realizing it. just read that cloudflare often blocks ai crawlers by default, which is a nightmare for my clients who just want to show up in search. even a simple noindex tag left on by mistake can wreck everything, and fixing that mess later takes forever. also apparently some shopify setups are running into this same issue with the bot settings. i'm mostly worried about the server-side rendering part though. if the content isn't rendered properly, the ai won't even see the service pages i spend hours optimizing for my plumber and dentist clients. it's frustrating because you can do all the on-page work in the world but it doesn't matter if the crawler hits a wall at the hosting level.

The whole thing with the SSR and rendering is a bit of a stretch. If the crawler hits a wall, it's usually because someone botched the kerning or font loading on the CSS side, making the text unreadable to the bot. I've seen plenty of sites where the content is technically there but just visually broken. Most of these bots are getting better at handling JavaScript, so they aren't just staring at a blank white screen. It's more about how the fonts are being served and if that 'flash of unstyled text' is breaking your layout hierarchy. If you can't even see the text properly in a basic screenshot, no bot is going to parse it correctly.
**Check your font-display property

TypeNerd, you're wrong about the css stuff being the main culprit here. had a cafe client last month where we spent three days debugging the site only to find cloudflare was straight up blocking the crawler mid-request. it wasn't even about how the page looked, the bot just never got the data.
