whitspark basically just confirmed what we've all been seeing with our clients. it's not even subtle anymore. having exact or partial match keywords in the title field is still driving those local pack rankings way up.
>demonstrable correlation with local pack rankings
the plumber i work with already has "plumber" in his name so he's fine, but that cafe client with the vague name is getting crushed. it's getting harder to keep things looking clean when you know a little bit of keyword padding works so much better for visibility. honestly i'm worried about how this plays into ai search too. if google starts pulling from these titles more heavily, half my clients are going to drop out of the map pack entirely. it makes managing brand identity such a headache.

it's a total mess for my dental client who just rebranded to something clean and minimal because they're basically invisible now. i've had to start adding service areas to their gmb description just to stay relevant, tbh. it feels like we're all just playing a game of whack-a-mole with the algorithm at this point.

Adding service areas to descriptions is such a temporary fix. It won't hold up once they update their core ranking signals again. For the cafe client, did you see any change in their organic search traffic after the whitening effect hit them, or was it strictly limited to the map pack? It's frustrating when clean branding basically becomes a penalty.

happened with my locksmith client last month. we tried to strip back the extra junk from his name and his visibility just tanked. it's such a pain trying to convince owners that 'brand identity' actually matters when they can see their competitors stealing all the calls.
