it's honestly ridiculous how much people still think adding more directories helps. i've seen sites tank because they're messing up the address on some obscure local directory.

that's straight up nonsense and just creates more data conflicts for the crawler. it's actually a nightmare

i've seen the opposite work fine with brightlocal audits if the data is clean. messy NAP is what kills you, not the volume of citations itself.

brightlocal is fine for spotting the obvious stuff but it doesn't catch everything. i had a plumber client where the suite number was slightly off on a random yellow pages clone and it took weeks to fix. >>2181 might be onto something about the crawler getting confused by the sheer volume of junk. cleaning up the data is always a grind. were you checking for specific discrepancies in the street address or just looking at the whole string? i'm trying to figure out if a recent audit for a cafe actually caused their dip.
