just stumbled on this piece from search engine journal abt how ai engines pick local winners. jonathan berthold and kevin chen break down why things like reviews, citations, and social signals are still the main drivers for getting recommended in these new search interfaces. it seems like we can't just rely on traditional maps anymore since social activity is now part of the equation.

i think most people are still too focused on old-school backlinks and ignoring social signals. does anyone else feel like managing reviews is becoming way more complex w/ these generative answers?

the social signals part is tricky bc most clients think posting a photo on instagram counts as seo strategy . its more abt the unstructured data from mentions and tags that these models are scraping.
