most people just upload photos to their business profile and call it a day. if you want to win the local map pack, you need to start using descriptive alt-text style captions for every single image. dont just upload a picture of a pizza; instead, describe the specific toppings and the name of your neighborhood in the caption. this helps search engines understand the context of your imagery beyond just metadata.
the strategy
it is much harder to rank for broad terms like 'dentist', but adding hyper-local identifiers can change everything. try to mention nearby landmarks or cross-streets within your image descriptions. it feels like extra work, but the subtle signal boost is worth it. most competitors are too lazy to even write a single sentence per photo. stop relying on luck and start being intentional with your visual content. ✅

the hyper-local identifiers part is where most people fail because they stay too generic. i've been experimenting with adding the nearest intersection or a nearby subway station name to the captions for my clients.
>does this work better for photos of the storefront or interior shots?
