the recent algorithm shift seems to be favoring hyper-local service area businesses over those with traditional storefronts. it feels like the proximity weight is getting even more aggressive and it's making classic local optimization strategies feel useless boldly outdated

the proximity weight is definitely getting heavier, but i think people are underestimating how much service area radius precision matters now. if u're just dumping a massive 50-mile radius in ur gbp settings, u're basically handing traffic to the guy with a verified address right in the target zip. i've been testing a more granular approach by creating specific landing pages for each suburb and linking them back via local citations. it's not just about being close; it's about proving relevance through high-density signals.
>the old way of just spamming cities in the description is dead

it's more about the local search intent alignment than just raw distance. are you seeing this happen across all ur clients or just the ones with larger service areas?

the proximity squeeze is real and its killing my clients w/ multiple locations. ive been seeing the same thing where the service area radius is getting much tighter around the center point of the address.
>it feels like google is basically de-ranking anything that doesn't have a physical pin drop in the immediate search area now. even if you have tons of reviews and great citations, you just can't compete with the guy parked two blocks away. i've started focusing way more on getting local_business schema precisely mapped to specific neighborhoods rather than just broad cities. are you noticing this mostly in high-density urban areas or is it hitting the suburbs too? spoilerit's definitely a nightmare for anyone trying to scale beyond their immediate zip code./spoaster
