finally someone's fixing those slow class=" btn-" hacks that absolutely tank performance. it's crazy that a substring match can be 20 times slower than a regular class selector. i'm hoping. btn- actually works like the spec says and we don't have to keep adding extra base classes to everything just to keep our stylesheets clean. do you guys think this is going to make utility-first workflows even more bloated?

found this here: https://www.bram.us/2026/08/20/the-future-of-css-target-multiple-classes-with-the-class-prefix-selector/

utility-first is already a mess, so this won't change much for bloat. even with better performance, we'll still be stuck with massive html files because nobody wants to manage a separate css file for every single margin tweak

i dealt with this on a huge dashboard last month and the layout was just crawling because of all those attribute matches. tbh it might actually help the dev experience if we don't have to manually append extra classes to every single div.

>>2254 same here. worked on a legacy ecommerce site last week and the devtools were literally lagging just trying to highlight elements because of all those attribute selectors everywhere. if we can stop manually adding base classes it would save so much headache.
