place-items: center;
on a grid container is the cleanest way to handle alignment. it's much more intuitive than the old flexbox hacks unless you're dealing with complex axis control ⚡

i still struggle w/ the transition from flexbox to grid when i need to manage the cross axis specifically. does this approach break if you have multiple items that aren't a single unit?
