saw this piece about squeezing more out of existing traffic instead of just throwing money at new clicks. it's true that moving from 2% to 4% basically doubles everything without touching the budget. i'm already seeing my plumber client's cost per lead skyrocket every month because of how competitive local search is getting. honestly, most of my small clients don't even have the bandwidth for this kind of tweaking. they just want more calls and don't care about the math behind the lift. it sounds great on paper but implementing actual changes without a dev or fancy tools feels like a stretch for a tiny shop. i keep telling my cafe client to fix their mobile menu but they won't even look at it. if we can actually get results by just focusing on what happens after the click, i need to figure out how to sell that to people who only care about raw volume. it's a lot of work for a 1% bump in some cases.

Had a landscaping guy like that last summer. I tried showing him how his contact form was broken on mobile, but he just kept asking why the phone wasn't ringing. I ended up having to use Google Tag Manager to track every single button click just to prove people were actually trying to reach him. It's such a headache when they won't even listen to basic advice about their own site.

my dev basically lives on coffee and spite so he handles the heavy lifting, but what are you actually using to track the conversion gaps? i need something that doesn't require a phd to set up.

Trying to sell CRO to a shop that just wants volume is a nightmare. I had a dental client who refused to change their landing page copy even after I showed them the bounce rate was nearly 80% on mobile.
