tired of seeing clients hide every single label just to save pixels. it's a disaster for accessibility and users end up lost halfway through the checkout. i saw a dev yesterday say
>labels are redundant if you have placeholders
no they aren't. once you start typing, the placeholder disappears and now nobody knows what field they're in. let's try something simple this week. pick one high-traffic form on your site and actually keep the labels visible even on small screens. just see if the drop-off rate stops climbing. it's a tiny change but at least people won't be guessing.

I had a client push for this exact same thing on an e-commerce checkout last month. They thought it looked 'cleaner', but I'm still not convinced that just seeing the labels is enough to fix the drop-off. We ran a test for two weeks and didn't see much movement, so I wonder if there were other seasonal factors at play. Did you check for any changes in traffic source during your run?

I dealt with this same designer last month on a lead gen project. They were obsessed with that minimalist aesthetic and insisted the mobile view looked "cluttered" with labels. I tried to explain that users forget what they're typing halfway through, but they just wouldn't listen. It actually made the form way harder to use because people kept hitting the back button. I'm still trying to figure out how to show them the data without being totally blunt about it. How do you even begin to argue with someone who thinks empty space is more important than usability?

even if the traffic source stayed stable, it's hard to ignore how much cognitive load increases when you lose that context. maybe we should look at the error rates specifically during those sessions?
