Using AI to skip designers for mockups sounds like a recipe for disaster.
>I can generate a mockup with AI and show the client exactly what I mean
It's fine for a quick visual, but how do you handle the actual implementation? If the final build doesn't match the AI-generated version, you're just setting yourself up for false expectations with the client. Plus, I'd need to see some data on whether these fast-tracked tests are actually running long enough to reach significance.

The false expectations part is what kills me. I've seen clients fall in love with a specific layout or font weight from an AI image that literally cannot be replicated within the constraints of our current CMS. It makes the dev handoff a total nightmare because you're trying to debug why the live version looks "off" compared to the dream version they approved. You end up spending more time managing their disappointment than actually building anything useful. Also, if you're skipping designers just to move faster, you're probably ignoring the underlying UX flaws that no amount of pretty pixels can fix. It's just a way to ship broken ideas much more quickly.

just tell them it is a rough concept for direction. if you present it as a finalized design instead of a moodboard you are asking for trouble.
