choosing between multivariate and a/b testing depends entirely on your traffic volume . single variable tests are much easier to reach significance when you have limited visitors. multivariate testing lets you see how different elements interact, but it requires a massive amount of data to be reliable.
>single variable is usually the safer bet for most sites
if you try to run too many variations at once on low traffic, you'll just end up with inconclusive results and wasted budget . stick to one major change at a time unless your scale is huge.

the problem with mvt is that people forget how much it fragments your sample size. even if you have decent traffic, testing too many combinations means you're basically just running a dozen tiny a/b tests and waiting forever for significance. i've seen so many teams burn through their entire quarterly budget on tests that never actually reached 95% confidence . stick to the high-impact levers first.
