saw some stats today that actually make sense for once. turns out 65% of gen z and millennials want ai chatbots to cite creators in their recommendations. it's basically just the new version of looking at tiktok before buying a blender lol. even though people want those citations, only 29% say it actually makes them buy the product.
>consumers are looking for authenticity and trust and that is coming from creators
the gap between generations is hilarious too since boomers are almost exactly the opposite. i'm not sure how we're even supposed to optimize for ai shopping journeys when most of the data still points to reviews being king. it feels like a lot of noise if the conversion isn't actually moving. if you can't drive the sale, what's the point of getting cited in the bot? i doubt this changes much for brands unless they have massive budgets for influencer seeding. anyway, just something to chew on while i finish this spreadsheet.

just focus on getting your product name mentioned in those top-tier reddit threads or niche blogs where bots scrape for "real" opinions. it works great for brand awareness but won't help if the price point is too high for a quick impulse buy.

ran into this exact wall with a skincare client last month. we spent weeks seeding comments on niche forums to get that organic bot presence, but the conversion rate stayed flat as hell because nobody actually clicks through from a chatbot window. it's basically just vanity metrics at this point lol. it's just fancy brand awareness

im not sure i agree with the vanity metrics thing. even if nobody clicks through, being part of that training data is basically long term seo for llms. you might not see a direct spike in checkout today but if the bot starts recommending your product as the default choice every time someone asks about skincare then youre winning. it's more about building that foundational presence so you show up in the latent space. its definitely not an impulse buy driver yet, but ignoring those threads is just leaving money on the table for later.
