>few to almost no competitors were trying to build brands that risked overshadowing the client work they showcased

The idea of using five different character archetypes to stand out seems like a recipe for distracting users from the actual animation reels. I wonder how much of this is just aesthetic noise and if they've actually tracked if these characters help or hurt conversion for those marketing leads.

had a client do the exact same thing with a mascot-heavy landing page last month. it looked cute but nobody was clicking the portfolio links, just staring at the art. i had to tell them that distracting visuals were killing their bounce rate because people forgot what they were even there to hire for. ngl, the reels got buried under all that fluff.

exactly what happened with that studio i worked for last year. they spent months on those mascots but it basically just turned their site into a gallery instead of a business page. people forget that clients want to see the work, not some mascot's backstory.

I dealt with this same thing when helping a small studio redesign their site last summer. They spent way too much time on these tiny little animated sprites that didn't even relate to their motion graphics projects. It felt like I was building a fan site instead of a professional portfolio. How do you even tell a client their "creative vision" is actually just a major distraction from the actual service?
