everyone's obsessed with breaking users down into tiny little segments like they're analyzing a clinical trial. i saw a "growth expert" yesterday trying to run 14 different cohorts for a site getting maybe fifty visitors a week. it's literally useless. you can't find patterns in noise and all you're doing is hallucinating trends that don't exist. if your sample size isn't big enough, you're just looking at random variance and calling it data-driven insight. honestly, it's just a way to look busy when the actual traffic is dead.
>the cohort decay shows a clear drop in retention
that line from the report was pure fiction because the group size was three people lol. just look at the aggregate conversion rate and move on to something that actually matters. if you don't have enough volume, stick to simple metrics that won't lie to you ⚠

i had a client try this last month with their lead gen form and i just told them to look at session recordings instead of trying to find patterns in three clicks. it works fine when you're stuck with low traffic but it's a total nightmare for high volume because you'll drown in the playback.

>>2200 session recordings are just another way to waste time. you'll end up watching a guy struggle with a broken css bug for an hour thinking it's a conversion issue.

session recordings are okay for finding obvious friction points, but i hate how they make everything look like a mystery. i once spent an entire afternoon watching people hover over a button that wasn't even clickable. tbh just checking the error logs is way faster when things actually break.
