i've been using this little snippet to catch that weird delay between clicks and actual sales in GA4 when the attribution is messy. it's better than relying on the default decay models which are totally pretty useless for high-ticket items.

window.dataLayer.push({'event': 'conversion_lag_check','session_start_timestamp': new Date().getTime(),'attribution_delay_ms': performance.now()});

does anyone actually trust the default attribution windows anymore?

the default models are a joke for anything with a long sales cycle. i had a client last month whose data looked totally broken because of that delay, so we started dumping the session ID into a custom parameter to manually stitch it back together in bigquery. works great for high-ticket stuff but don't bother if you're just running low-margin impulse buys where the window is basically instant.
