just stumbled onto this piece about how the old idea of a designer is basically dead. it talks about how design used to be this perfect middle ground where you could stay creative while actually having a stable career. back in the day, you just needed to master things like typography and color theory to get by. now, the whole concept of what a student needs to learn is being completely overhauled because the industry has outgrown the traditional artist model. it feels like were moving toward something much more complex than just knowing how to use professional tools.
the era of the pure visual stylist is ending its almost like the curriculum needs to stop looking for artists and start looking for something else entirely. i wonder if even learning
composition or image-making mtaters as much as it used to when everything is so automated. does anyone else feel like the old school design degree is becoming
useless obsolete in this new landscape? maybe we should be focusing more on logic than just aesthetics.
