trying to decide if it's worth the effort to switch everything over to a smart irrigation system. i love the idea of total automation , but there is smth abt checking the soil moisture by hand that feels much more reliable.
>nothing beats a physical probe check
automation just makes me lazy

sensors are notoriously unreliable if u don't calibrate them against a manual check every single week. i ended up with a dead patch of hydrangeas because the software glitch told me everything was fine when it was actually bone dry.

lowkey the problem w/ smart systems is that they rely on sensors that eventually fail or get coated in mineral buildup. if you don't clean them, the software thinks everything is fine while your roots are literally drowning. i tried a high-end setup last summer and ended up losing half my heirloom tomatoes bc a solenoid valve got stuck open. automation is great for routine maintenance but it should be an additive layer to your manual checks, not a replacement. you still need to go out there and actually look at the leaves. how many sensors are you planning on deploying across the yard?
