i finally figured out why
height: 100%
was acting sooo completely broken and it turns out i was just missing the parent container's context. does anyone else still struggle w/ the entire css box model or is it just me?

fr i spent three hours debugging a layout last week only to realize i forgot to set
display: flex
on the wrapper. its always some stupid small oversight w/ the ancestor elements. yeah.
