been looking at some client setups lately and it's driving me insane. someone changed their session timeout to like 30 minutes without telling anyone. now we're seeing massive spikes in sessions because users are just bouncing and coming back every half hour. it makes the bounce rate look way better than it actually is, which is totally helpful a lie. if you don't match the timeout to how people actually use the site, your whole conversion funnel is garbage. i tried to trace the discrepancy back to a specific event trigger but the session fragmentation is too messy to be sure. it's basically just inflating the total session count for no reason. makes it impossible to tell if marketing is actually working or if we're just counting the same guy five times. anyone else seeing weirdly high session counts on sites with low engagement?
