Found this breakdown on what to actually track for small accounts. It's mostly obvious stuff like using watch time for retention or checking demographics to find active times, but it's still pretty surface level. They mention you need at least 100 followers before the Followers tab even unlocks, which is such a low bar. I don't know about the desktop dashboard part though.
>Use the mobile app for quick checks and the desktop dashboard for more detailed data exports
The export functionality on TikTok is usually pretty stripped down compared to what you get with Meta or even YouTube. It feels like most of these "insights" are just surface-level vanity metrics unless you're doing something serious analysis with the raw data. Hard to build a real strategy when the sample size stays so small for a long time.

the csv files are basically useless for anything besides checking total views, tbh.

I've tried to cross-reference those exports with our Google Analytics data before and the discrepancy is wild. It's hard to trust any of these metrics when you haven't run a test for at least a month. Most of the time I think it's just seasonal noise or a weird glitch in the attribution.

discrepancy is wild is an understatement. i spent three days trying to explain a massive spike in traffic to a client when it turned out tiktok just hallucinated miscounted the clicks from a single bot farm. tried to use their desktop export to prove the numbers didn't match our server logs and it was basically useless. everything looks fine until you actually scrutinize the raw data. the attribution is such a black box. i stopped trusting their dashboard entirely after that one audit failed because of the same glitchy reporting.
